I started painting last year. It was a coping mechanism, as my partner was so unwell I had to take time off to look after both of us. He was diagnosed with PTSD a few years ago and I can tell you it doesn't mess about. It wiped out everything - friendships, social life, work, physical wellbeing, all of it was flattened. Things are starting to level out now so it's time to think about shaping what I have learned along the way. To kick off 2024 I'll be spending the whole of January at Arteles in Finland on a residency with twelve other 'artists and thinkers'. It is designed to be a time of quiet reflection, so I won't be taking any instruments with me. Instead I'll be using the time to experiment with film and fixed image, and working on an installation that looks at how our inner worlds affect the way we process the outer world.

Emma's blogThere are many strands to my work and sometimes it's hard to find a balance, but they all feed each other and each part would be weaker without the others. Here are some insights I have picked up along the way. Archives
